Floral Teapot

This charming floral tea pot is decorated with a dotty daffodil pattern. Beautiful displayed when not in use. Elegant quality craftsmanship for every day use.

The squarish shape is hand built with a dark brown stoneware clay. Three coats of porcelain slip provide a blank canvas for decorating.  Yellow, blue and white flowers are hand painted with underglazes on the leather-hard clay then outlined by carving through the decorative layers to the dark clay beneath, a technique known as sgraffito. After the first firing the background is stippled with celadon glaze and the whole teapot gets a dip in a glossy clear food safe glaze. It is then fired to 2163 F resulting in a vitreous dense clay that is durable and chip resistant.
