Painted Pottery Workshop
Two options are available to paint your own pottery in-person with Colleen on Sunday, February 5th. Pottery workshop is held at Chamberlain Acres Garden Center, 824 Broadway in Elmira, NY. No experience needed. Sign up for one or both sessions if you wish. They are scheduled back to back on the same day. Session 1 begins at 11am and is for dessert plates only. Session 2 begins at 1pm and is exclusively to decorate bud vases. Workshop maximum is 12 participants per session. Secure your spot as soon as possible.
Session 1: 11am-12:45pm One Dessert Plate
Session 2: 1pm-2:45pm One Reversible Bud Vase
Learn how to transfer an image or pattern to the leather-hard surface using your own inspiration or one of Colleen's patterns. Choose your own colors. paint as you wish and finish with carved sgraffito lines that reveal the dark brown clay beneath. The resulting piece is fired at the artist's studio with a food safe clear glaze. Your colorful and fully functional creation will be microwave and dishwasher safe! See a few brilliant examples of past participant art works here.
Please note we are working with greenware (raw unfired clay,) it is more fragile than painting bisque ware (clay that has been fired once). Only one item is prepared in advance per person and should be handled delicately. For this reason the recommended minimum age for this workshop is 14.
Sundays are cosy at the Acres with the year round farmer's market from 11am -3pm in the heated green house. Plan to come early or take a break from painting to visit the market. We'll meet up in the cottage gift shop surrounded by plants, flowers and hopefully some sunny Vitamin D.
All materials provided. Items are fired within 1-2 weeks following the workshop depending on the artist's kiln schedule. An email will alert participants when pottery is available for pick up during garden center hours. Handwork in Ithaca is an alternative pick up location by special arrangement. If you are traveling from outside the local area to paint with us, shipping is available for an additional cost.
Dress in layers as the temperature in the greenhouse fluctuates with the sun and weather. Also consider bringing an apron or wearing your grubbies as the clay and underglazes can stain clothing. Any further questions, please contact me. Participants will also receive a reminder email with more details prior to the workshop date.
Workshops are non-refundable. However, a $40 gift voucher for my website is offered for cancellations due to illness.
