It’s strange I can’t recall the origin of one of my favorite designs. I like it’s vibrancy, the red dots and the combination of imagined and real florals.

🌻🌈 💚Here’s my pattern transfer technique in action and sequenced to one of my favorite movies. Did you know I grew up in Kansas just like Dorothy?! Does anyone have poppies blooming in their gardens yet?

This small platter is made from dark brown stoneware, coated with porcelain slip and hand painted with underglaze colors at leather hard just before the clay hardens. Lastly the line work is carved to reveal the clay beneath, a technique known as #sgraffito

It’s been a crummy mid life crisis kind of week

It’s been a crummy mid life crisis kind of week but I finished this platter without an edge crack. 🙌🏻

My new secret tip for platters is to wax the edge. Hopefully it allows for more even drying. The change in humidity is also helpful during spring. Lastly I’m reserving more of the color work to post bisque firing to avoid any rehydration issues from underglaze painting.

This flower bomb is ready to ship after my bouquet wilts. Seriously, this vase is small but mighty. I love it for the dining table which happens to be the hub of our home.

Looking forward to seeing this new vintage pattern all fired up after a dip in clear glaze. Using @amacobrent Cherry Blossom Celadon for a subtle pink dot and @maycocolors Candy Apple Red Stroke & Coat to brush background. Underglazes were painted on green ware. This is bisque stage after first firing.

I scavenged some new-to-me pattern inspiration dur

I scavenged some new-to-me pattern inspiration during my clay conference. Starting with this amazing quilt coat worn by @randi.obrien and followed by a stop at the antique mall on my way home. Can’t wait to sketch up some new designs after an inspiring week in clay land.

My childhood road trips were full of stops for antiques. You could either sweat it out in the van or go picking with mom. I always chose the latter.
