My cherry 🍒tree is abundant. I’ve been sharing with the birds, squirrels and neighbors. Made sour cherry coconut muffins, cherry butter, maybe a pie today and cheesecake tomorrow. The cherry butter is excellent on chocolate ice cream. Any other ideas? Please share!

Did you know the iconic bright red cherry is actually a sour cherry? Sweet cherries are darker in color.

I’ve been doing my sgraffito work in a chair under the cherry tree the past couple of weeks and had to revisit this black bird pattern as they were in and out above my head.

Happy Saturday! I made this low fire monster aka coffee cake. Strawberries and rhubarb handpicked from my garden this morning! Displayed on a lovely @samanthahenneke plate and served up on heirloom bone china plates that I snagged from my Grandma Carey.

Also pictured my cobbler man and @trailerafire with their baked goods for the potters’ dinner last weekend.

More bisque ware! 🙌🏻 Two dozen tumblers stac

More bisque ware! 🙌🏻
Two dozen tumblers stacked rim to rim to prevent warping, a technique known as boxing and primarily reserved for bone china. This batch will be the true test of my new casting slip recipe. I’m hoping I have way less warping. My previous loss ratio was 50% 😜 After a dip in clear glaze they’ll be stacked on their freshly wiped bottoms for the final firing.

Side note: I decorate them with a hand drawn tissue transfer. The transfer will print twice on the raw clay so most of my tumblers have a twin and a stacking buddy. 👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️

These will be available this weekend @flxpotterytour A new order of travel lids arrive today too!

Boxing tumblers in the bisque kiln rim to rim.🤞Hopefully it helps alleviate my warping issues. I also amended my slip recipe and changed my casting technique. So many tests to get this shape working reliably. If this new stoneware recipe fails I may have to use brown porcelain. 😜 I love these tumblers so much.

Hello there! So much is happening behind the scene

Hello there! So much is happening behind the scenes to prep for summer shows and a new website. I won't be around much on social media while I get ready for in-person events. However, I do want to introduce myself to new followers and show off my fabulous new head shot by my talented friend @arcimages.

June will be a busy month with the @flxpotterytour June 11-12 (Ithaca) and Roycroft Summer Festival June 25-26 (East Aurora). My link tree in Instagram will pop you over to get more details or send me your email address to be added to my newsletter. I'm waiting to confirm July and August shows.

Upstate New York is filled with so many great opportunities and fabulous patrons. I'm really glad we landed back in the area to raise our kids in Elmira, NY. In 1998 I received my MFA from @alfredceramics. Since then we've lived in Boston, Carbondale, Illinois and Green Bay before moving to Elmira in 2006. I always had access to a ceramic studio as we moved about for my husband's education and career in philosophy. Along the way I met many talented makers that sparked my creativity and were valuable mentors. My studio practice converted from life-size figure sculpture to hand-painted colorful pottery with the advent of family.

I've been making illustrated sgraffito pottery since 2004. My kids are now 20 and 16! They've both worked with me in the studio, traveled to countless shows and been raised with handmade ceramics.

I really love what I do and value the connections I am able to make through this functional art form that draws upon all my favorite things: color, pattern and texture.

Peak cherry tree blossoming in my little yard. 🌸🍒⚱️I love anticipating the next blossom or fruit this time of year. Spring is my favorite season 💗

I have 3 of these just listed in my online shop. The last time I painted robins they were posed in a pink flowering cherry tree. Those bud vases have all fledged.

I won’t have actual cherries until mid June. We shall see who is more productive me or the tree. The @flxpotterytour is June 11-12!!
