Secretly hoarding these hanging planters because they are so tricky to photograph and display. Today I learned that you can flip a video upside down?! Art is all about shifting your perspective. Hope it helps you imagine how fabulous these are. I love making them and using them.

Small fits a 4 inch potted plant and the medium is just over 6 inches in diameter. Large is coming soon!! And X-large is a custom order. Hope to get these “balls” out into the world soon! My next show is at a garden center in Syracuse October 7-8 #clayscapespotterymarket

Made these textured mugs but couldn’t resist pai

Made these textured mugs but couldn’t resist painting the bottoms! My mugs typically have texture on the inside and painting on the outside. I literally had to sandwich my clay between two layers of texture to impress both sides at the same time then freak out about how to join all the seams and add handles without destroying the texture. @staceyesslinger is the queen of textured slab pottery. I’m decorating the world one pot at a time. Here’s a half finished platter to show you my sgraffito technique. I’m carving the line work through a top coat of porcelain slip and underglaze colors to reveal the dark brown clay beneath. This is my second attempt at this platter. The first one developed an edge crack during the bisque. See it in my stories.

This plaster press mold is made from a vintage glass plate. The clay plate will get two more coats of porcelain slip then pop out overnight so I can make another tomorrow.

I’ve just listed these 3 wonky serving bowls in my Etsy shop aka the seconds shop if you don’t mind your pottery with a bit more attitude and discounted.

This large open bowl with bubbly exterior is press molded by hand to capture all that great texture. Some warping naturally happens with this process because you are asking a flat slab to be round. However, these bowls have a bit more wonkiness than I would like. Sometimes I refer to my seconds as misfits for this reason. It’s just clay misbehaving. Not ideal to have 1 out if every 3 bowls warp this much. My loss is your gain. There are a few other irregular items in the Etsy shop if you’re looking for a deal. I’ll add link in bio on IG and in comments on FB.

🌞”Morning light in the showroom”
I created this space in my entry to keep track of my online inventory, give myself more room in the basement for pottery making AND most of all to play with pattern. I love getting to arrange the display. It’s a lot like quilting or putting together an outfit. Spending some time living with my creations before they find a new home is also a bonus.

I had to paint my nails last week because my hands were trashed from a week of plaster mold making AND I was going to a disco.

A dozen mugs in 3 new patterns! I always work from

A dozen mugs in 3 new patterns! I always work from these sharpie sketches to trace the pattern onto tissue paper with water soluble ink. The tissue is transferred to the leather-hard mug with a damp sponge then painted with underglazes and carved. Some colors may be missing at this stage because they are applied after the first firing. Working in small batches like this is the best way to be efficient when you’re a maximalist. I can also “print” the tissue transfer twice before the ink is gone. So every mug has a buddy. 👯‍♀️

Day 2 of Plaster Week: The Carnage

Multiple projects in various stages in my tiny workspace. The goal is to replace my worn out slip casting molds and add a new larger hanging planter to my repertoire.

Only took 3 tries to figure out a system for the juice cup mold. It’s my first time working off of a silicone master. That’s the blue stuff. I’m excited to have the same rubber like master for the pint sized tumblers too. It needs to set overnight then I can smash the plaster shell off.

Sadly, the reversible bud vase molds are stuck together. It’s a two part mold that I want to duplicate at least 6 times. Going to send my bud vase prototype off to a professional mold maker. Any recommendations?

Visited Handwork today! I’m now a consigning artist which means you won’t catch me working in the store but you can still find a nice selection of my pottery.

I’m choosing to spend more time in my studio which means giving up the commute from Elmira to Ithaca.

Front to back, top to bottom and green to glazed,

Front to back, top to bottom and green to glazed, this William Morris inspired wedding platter is one huge test tile. Decorated with less underglaze and more colored celadons after the bisque firing for a softer look.

I’ve had two separate commissions this past year sparked by wedding stationery. The bride also loves lilies and their anniversary is in May thus the lilies of the valley on the back. It’s so hard to keep these projects a secret until gifted.

Thanks for trusting my artistry and vision. I love making these modern heirlooms. AND I love, love, love my faithful new kiln.
