What's better than one blue floral plate? Two blue floral plates! We love the functionality of this form and the experimentation with pattern. The ovoid shape is quite unique as a dinner plate but also lends itself to use as a small serving platter for appetizers or treats.
We rarely paint the same pattern twice in the same way. Each time Colleen returns to a motif her design decisions change informed by new experiences and an ever expanding knowledge of her glazes. This may lead to different color choices or variations in the composition as shown here with these two very similar plates. It's why we like to decorate by hand instead of using decals or silk screens. Can you spy all the differences?
The most obvious difference is the amount of blue flowers. The plate with the lush all over pattern is true to the original vintage inspiration. For plate number two Colleen turned it 90 degrees from its usual horizontal orientation to consider the shape vertically. She thinned out the florals to give the pattern focus laying it out in a linear composition.
