Join Colleen in the greenhouse at Chamberlain Acres Garden Center in Elmira, NY to paint your own functional work of art on Sunday September 29 from 12:00-3:00pm. Choose one item per person to paint:
reversible bud vase
round flower bomb vase
pair of dessert plates
10 inch square lunch plate
small hanging planter
Please note registration closes Thursday September 26th at 10pm in order to prepare your item ahead of time.
Bring your own inspiration or use one of Colleen's designs. Learn how to trace and transfer the pattern or motif to the raw clay surface. Then paint as you wish with a wide variety of underglaze colors. No need to paint in the lines as we carve the lines last using a technique called sgraffito. By scratching through to the dark clay color beneath you can outline motifs or add texture and interest. Warning: this final stage is very satisfying and addictive.
No experience necessary.
Materials, instruction and firing is included.
Workshop size is limited to share underglazes and tools.
Bring an apron or wear your play clothes.
Dishwasher and microwave safe.
All non-toxic food safe materials.
Return shipping of fired items is available for an extra charge. Otherwise pick up is available at your convenience anytime during garden center hours. Items are fired within 2-3 weeks depending on when the kiln is full.
The Acres hosts a local farmer's market every Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Come early if you wish to shop or grab a treat from one of the vendors.
