The unique shape and texture of this dish comes from vintage pressed glass. We adapt the shape to better suit contemporary use then make a plaster mold. Our dark brown clay is carefully pressed into the mold and the bowl interior is made nice and smooth. It is then coated with porcelain slip to create a blank canvas for decorating with vibrant underglazes. The line work is the result of carving through the decorative layers to the dark brown clay beneath. A technique known as sgraffito. This particular motif is further decorated after the first firing to add more glaze colors prior to being brushed in clear glaze. The exterior gets a dip in our signature tin white glaze to highlight the surface texture.
